AlloyDB for PostgreSQL adds agentic architecture for real-time data access and isolated scaling
Google Cloud's AlloyDB for PostgreSQL now offers an agentic architecture in preview, designed to provide real-time data access for AI agents. This architecture enables full workload isolation by dynamically provisioning sandboxed database instances that scale to millions of agents in seconds, then spin down automatically. It prevents unpredictable query surges from overwhelming mission-critical systems while supporting sub-millisecond I/O and native lakehouse integration. This offering aims to make high-scale, cost-effective agent operations possible for enterprises.

- AlloyDB for PostgreSQL adds agentic architecture for AI agents
AlloyDB for PostgreSQL now includes an agentic architecture (in preview) that enables real-time data access for AI agents without compromising mission-critical systems. It scales to dynamic agent bursts by provisioning sandboxed database instances in seconds, offering full workload isolation.
- Sub-millisecond I/O latency with terabit-per-second throughput
This architecture provides a large-scale, shared storage plane for agents, combining AlloyDB’s processing with Google’s Colossus storage infrastructure. It achieves sub-millisecond I/O and over a terabit-per-second of aggregate scan bandwidth, allowing agents to execute intensive read and vector searches against fresh operational data.
- Fully isolated, dynamically scaling compute for agent workloads
Agentic database compute remains completely isolated from primary database clusters, allowing agents to execute dense, unpredictable reasoning loops without degrading production performance. These sandboxed instances dynamically provision and scale to meet demand while offering enterprise-grade governance and fine-grained access control.
- Cost-effective pay-as-you-go billing for agent activity
To support massive groups of agents cost-effectively, these agentic AlloyDB instances can rapidly scale to handle millions of queries per second. They automatically scale to zero when agents finish, reducing cloud spend by billing only for active reasoning loops.
- Native lakehouse integration without complex ETL pipelines
All production data is natively integrated with Google Cloud’s Lakehouse, allowing agents to run federated queries across BigQuery and Spark. This provides instant access to both live operational state and historical lakehouse context, eliminating the need for fragile batch ETL pipelines.
