Amazon Location Service has enhanced its Places APIs with new features for address formatting, multilingual place name translations, and travel-optimized search. These updates offer developers greater control over data presentation and improve the relevance of search results for mobile users. The changes affect multiple APIs including Geocode, ReverseGeocode, GetPlace, and Suggest, making it easier to build localized and navigation-focused applications. New capabilities like AddressNamesMode and TravelMode are now available across supported AWS Regions.

  • Enhanced address formatting and name resolution
  • Multilingual place name translations
  • Travel-optimized POI search
  • Drive-through service attribute added to search results
  • Expanded regional availability for Places APIs
Features (4)
  • Enhanced address formatting and name resolution

The Places APIs now include an AddressNamesMode parameter, allowing developers to control address component name formatting (matched, normalized, or administrative). Developers can also use AddressNamesVariant for per-component overrides and access additional interpretation details via Parsing.AdditionalInfo in the Geocode API.

  • Multilingual place name translations

A new AddressTranslations parameter provides place name translations in over 50 languages, simplifying the creation of multilingual applications. This feature helps applications cater to a global user base by displaying place names in the user's preferred language.

  • Travel-optimized POI search

The TravelMode parameter has been added to the Suggest and SearchText APIs to optimize Point of Interest (POI) search results for users in transit, improving relevance for navigation and in-vehicle use cases.

  • Drive-through service attribute added to search results

The GetPlace, Suggest, SearchNearby, and SearchText APIs now return a DriveThrough attribute, indicating if a location offers drive-through service. This is particularly useful for applications in logistics, food delivery, and navigation.

Notes (1)
  • Expanded regional availability for Places APIs

These enhancements to Amazon Location Service Places APIs are now available across numerous AWS Regions, including standard regions like US East (N. Virginia) and Europe (Frankfurt), as well as AWS GovCloud (US-West).
