Amazon MSK Replicator adds support for external Kafka to MSK Standard brokers

dataawsengineer
feature

Amazon MSK Replicator now supports replicating data from external Apache Kafka clusters to Amazon MSK Standard brokers, in addition to existing support for MSK Express. This enhancement allows for easier migration to MSK Standard, disaster recovery setups, and hybrid/multi-cloud data distribution for users managing external Kafka deployments. The feature is available in all regions where MSK Replicator is offered and enables replication using SASL/SCRAM or mTLS authentication.

  • Replicate data from external Kafka to MSK Standard brokers
  • Expanded use cases for MSK Replicator
  • Enhanced connection security for external clusters
  • Automated replication with advanced features
Features (1)
  • Replicate data from external Kafka to MSK Standard brokers

Amazon MSK Replicator now supports replicating data from external Apache Kafka clusters, including on-premises or self-managed clusters, to Amazon MSK Standard brokers. This extends the replication capability beyond MSK Express brokers.

Enhancements (3)
  • Expanded use cases for MSK Replicator

This update enables users to migrate workloads to MSK Standard brokers, set up MSK clusters as disaster recovery targets, and distribute data across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. It also supports replication from MSK Standard to external Kafka clusters for failback scenarios.

  • Enhanced connection security for external clusters

Replication to MSK Standard brokers can now utilize SASL/SCRAM or mutual TLS (mTLS) authentication for secure connections to external Kafka clusters. This provides flexibility and enhances the security posture of data replication.

  • Automated replication with advanced features

MSK Replicator automates data replication, removing the need for custom infrastructure or manual configuration of open-source tools. It preserves original Kafka topic names, avoids infinite replication loops, and synchronizes consumer group offsets bidirectionally for seamless producer and consumer movement.
