Amazon Redshift Graviton instances expand to new AWS Regions
Amazon Redshift RG instances, powered by AWS Graviton processors, are now available in three new AWS Regions: Africa (Cape Town), Asia Pacific (Bangkok), and Mexico (Central). These instances offer significant price-performance improvements and faster query execution for data warehousing workloads. Customers in these regions can provision new RG instances or upgrade existing ones to benefit from reduced compute and storage costs.

Features (1) ›
- Amazon Redshift Graviton instances available in new AWS Regions
Amazon Redshift RG instances, powered by AWS Graviton processors, are now generally available in Africa (Cape Town), Asia Pacific (Bangkok), and Mexico (Central) regions. These instances are available in rg.xlarge and rg.4xlarge node types.
Enhancements (4) ›
- Improved price-performance and speed with Graviton instances
RG instances provide up to 4.2X better price-performance for data warehouse workloads and run up to 2.4X faster than previous-generation RA3 instances. They also cost 30% less per vCPU compared to other instances.
- Cost savings on backup storage with Redshift manual snapshots
Customers now pay less for backup storage as Amazon Redshift incremental manual snapshots are metered based on unique data blocks rather than total snapshot size. This provides additional cost savings.
- Elimination of Redshift Spectrum scanning charges
RG instances eliminate Redshift Spectrum scanning charges, meaning customers no longer pay for data scanned in Amazon S3 via Spectrum. This further reduces the total cost of running data lake queries.
- Easy upgrade path for existing RA3 instances
Customers can upgrade their existing RA3 provisioned instances to RG instances and immediately benefit from improved query performance and reduced compute costs.
