App Engine Python Standard Environment: TLS 1.2+ Enforcement Planned for 2026
Google App Engine standard environment for Python applications will begin enforcing TLS version 1.2 and later to enhance security. Starting in August 2026, applications will be opted into TLS 1.2+ by default, with an option to opt out until the end of that month. From September 2026, App Engine may permanently block insecure traffic using TLS 1.1 and earlier protocols. This change aims to improve the overall security posture of applications.

To improve security, starting in August 2026, App Engine opts your application into TLS version 1.2 and later. You can opt out until the end of August 2026.
