AWS Glue Data Catalog adds business context and semantic search (Preview)
AWS Glue Data Catalog now supports business context and semantic search in preview, enabling users to discover and understand data based on its meaning. This feature allows enrichment of data catalog entries with glossary terms and custom metadata, improving data discovery and grounding AI agents with trusted definitions. Data analysts and AI agents can now find tables by both technical structure and semantic meaning, with initial availability in select AWS regions.

AWS Glue Data Catalog now supports business context, allowing tables to be enriched with glossary terms and custom metadata fields. This enhancement aims to improve data discovery and understanding by associating semantic meaning with technical metadata.
- Enable semantic search for Glue Data Catalog
A new Glue Search API allows users to find data catalog tables by semantic meaning, in addition to their technical structure. This facilitates discovery by business context, making it easier for analysts and AI agents to locate relevant data.
- Integrate Glue Data Catalog with AI agents
The new capabilities enable AI agents, using the aws-data-analytics plugin, to access trusted definitions and context directly from the Glue Data Catalog. This aims to improve the accuracy and reliability of AI-driven data analysis and reasoning.
