Azure Computer Vision Image Analysis to be retired September 25, 2028

Microsoft is announcing the planned retirement of the Azure Computer Vision – Image Analysis service, with full support continuing until September 25, 2028. Customers are encouraged to transition to alternative Azure services based on their specific use cases. For OCR and face scenarios, Document Intelligence and Face API are recommended, respectively, while the GPT model series in Microsoft Foundry or the preview Azure AI Content Understanding can be used for other computer vision needs.

    The Azure Computer Vision – Image Analysis service is scheduled for retirement on September 25, 2028. Full support will be provided to existing customers until that date. During the support window, customers should plan and execute their transition to alternative Azure products.

  • Recommended transition paths for Image Analysis use cases

    For Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Read capabilities, customers should utilize Document Intelligence. For Face API scenarios, the Face API is the recommended replacement. Other Computer Vision scenarios can leverage the GPT model series found in Microsoft Foundry or the new preview product, Azure AI Content Understanding, which is powered by LLMs.
