Azure NP-series VMs to be retired May 31, 2027

Microsoft Azure will retire the NP-series virtual machine sizes Standard_NP10s, Standard_NP20s, and Standard_NP40s on May 31, 2027. After this date, remaining NP-series VMs will be deallocated and will no longer be supported under SLA. Customers should transition to recommended alternative VM families like NDv2, NCads_H100_v5, or NCasT4_v3 to avoid service disruption.

  • NP-series VM sizes to be retired

    Azure will retire Standard_NP10s, Standard_NP20s, and Standard_NP40s virtual machine sizes on May 31, 2027. After this date, these VMs will be deallocated and will cease to function, incurring no further billing charges, and will no longer be covered by an SLA or receive support.

  • End of Reserved Instance purchases

    Purchases for 1-year and 3-year Reserved Instances for the NP-series VMs will end on April 2, 2026.

  • Required action for users

    To prevent service disruption, users must resize or deallocate their NP-series VMs and migrate to suitable alternative VM sizes before the retirement date.

  • Recommended alternative VM families

    For continuity and performance, Azure recommends transitioning to NDv2 VMs for demanding AI/ML/HPC workloads, NCads_H100_v5 VMs for applied AI training and inference, or NCasT4_v3 VMs for AI services and graphics.
