Azure Sphere OS version 26.09 has reached General Availability in the Retail feed, featuring a significant migration of its underlying Linux Kernel from the 5.10.x to the 6.1.x branch. This update aligns Azure Sphere with the Linux CIP Platform for Super Long-Term Support, enhancing the OS's foundational stability and longevity. It marks the final major kernel update for Azure Sphere before its planned retirement in 2031. While devices connected to the internet will automatically receive this OS update, it contains no functional changes or new features for users, and there is no accompanying SDK update.
