Azure Spring Apps to Retire March 31, 2028
Microsoft and VMware by Broadcom are retiring the Azure Spring Apps service, a fully managed platform for Java Spring applications. The retirement will occur in two phases: Standard consumption and dedicated plans will retire March 31, 2025, followed by Basic, Standard, and Enterprise plans on March 31, 2028. Customers are advised to migrate to Azure Container Apps, a serverless container service with enhanced Java features, to maintain scalability and flexibility.

- Azure Spring Apps Retirement Schedule
The Azure Spring Apps service and all its plans (Basic, Standard, Enterprise, Standard consumption, and dedicated) will be retired by March 31, 2028. Specific plans enter sunset periods earlier: Standard consumption and dedicated plans from September 30, 2024, retiring March 31, 2025. Basic, Standard, and Enterprise plans will enter their sunset period in mid-March 2025, retiring March 31, 2028.
- Migration Recommendation to Azure Container Apps
Azure Container Apps is recommended as the primary service for migrating workloads from Azure Spring Apps, offering a fully managed serverless container service with enhanced Java features. Customers using Spring Commercial support or Tanzu components in Enterprise plans will need to switch to Tanzu Platform Spring Essentials on Azure Container Apps.

To avoid service disruptions, customers using Standard consumption and dedicated plans should transition to Azure Container Apps by March 31, 2025. Those using Basic, Standard, or Enterprise plans have until March 31, 2028, to complete their migration. After the respective retirement dates, Azure Spring Apps instances will no longer be accessible.
