Azure VM Insights Map and Dependency Agent to Retire June 30, 2028
Azure is retiring the VM Insights Map and the Dependency Agent on June 30, 2028. This retirement will disable access to the Map tab, Connections Overview workbook, and the ability to install or send new data via the Dependency Agent. Existing data will be retained based on workspace policies, but no new OS versions will be supported after June 30, 2025, and new VM onboarding will cease after September 30, 2025. Customers seeking similar functionality should explore Azure Marketplace solutions.

- VM Insights Map and Dependency Agent retirement
The VM Insights Map and the Dependency Agent will be retired on June 30, 2028, ceasing support for all associated functionality. This includes the Map tab in the Azure Portal, the Connections Overview workbook, and the ability to install the Dependency Agent on new VMs.
- Impact on data ingestion and querying
After June 30, 2028, customers will no longer be able to send new data to Azure Monitor Log Analytics using the Dependency Agent or query the Service Map API. Existing data in Log Analytics workspaces will be retained according to configured retention policies.
- Phased retirement timeline
No new Operating System versions will be supported starting June 30, 2025. Customers will be unable to onboard new VMs from the Azure portal after September 30, 2025, and full retirement occurs on June 30, 2028.
