GCP Backup and DR Service to automatically apply project-level liens
Effective November 1, 2026, Google Cloud's Backup and DR Service will automatically apply project-level liens to projects with backup vaults protected by enforced retention. This change aims to secure project liens from unauthorized removal. Customers can configure multi-party approval for secure lien deletion using Privileged Access Manager (PAM).

Beginning November 1, 2026, Backup and DR Service will automatically apply a project-level lien to any project containing a backup vault with backups protected by enforced retention. To secure project liens against unauthorized removal and manage lien deletion securely, you can configure multi-party approval using Privileged Access Manager (PAM).
