Cloud Storage now retains soft-deleted buckets after project deletion for recovery

datagcpgaengineergcp-cloud-storage
feature

Google Cloud Storage now offers a new retention capability for buckets with soft delete enabled; these buckets are temporarily retained even if their parent project is deleted. This allows for the restoration of soft-deleted buckets to their original state if the deleted project is recovered within the retention window. The feature enhances data recovery options for Cloud Storage users and project administrators. For more details on this behavior and restoration windows, refer to the soft delete documentation.

If you delete your project, buckets that have soft delete enabled are now retained for a limited amount of time before being permanently deleted. If you restore a deleted project during this time period, these buckets are restored to the state that they were in when the project was deleted. For more information about soft delete and the restoration window, see Soft delete .
