Databricks Introduces Smart Routing in Unity AI Gateway for Cost-Optimized Coding
Databricks has launched Smart Routing, now available in Beta, within its Unity AI Gateway to automatically match coding tasks with the most appropriate AI models and harnesses based on complexity. This new capability aims to significantly reduce AI coding costs by over 30% per task while maintaining or improving quality and developer productivity. By eliminating choice overload, Smart Routing allows organizations to optimize model selection across tools like Claude Code, Codex, and Omnigent. Early results demonstrate substantial cost savings on internal and public coding benchmarks compared to using single, high-cost models.
