This rapid approach delivered a board-ready modernization blueprint on AWS for a UK-regulated financial institution transitioning from a legacy .NET estate.

The customer, a UK wealth management platform with over 1.7 million lines of ASP.NET code across numerous systems and databases, faced issues with monolithic architecture hindering growth and stalled previous modernization attempts. The core challenge involved decomposing this substantial codebase into approximately 15 medium-grained domain services, addressing significant data-layer coupling.

Kloia’s AI-Driven Development Lifecycle (AI-DLC) methodology inverts traditional discovery by using agentic AI tools for primary analysis, validated by senior architects. The process includes automated discovery and analysis, domain validation and decomposition, target architecture design and splitting, and finally, comprehensive roadmap, cost, and execution plan development within the four-week timeframe.

The resulting blueprint defines a target state of about 15 medium-grained domain services, moving away from a monolithic structure. The infrastructure design leverages managed AWS services for compute, data (including Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL), eventing, observability, and security, while retaining Amazon RDS for SQL Server during the transition phase.
