SageMaker Studio adds data lineage for IAM-based domains

dataawsengineerhealthcare
feature

Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio now supports OpenLineage compatible data lineage for IAM-based domains, integrating with Spark jobs from EMR, Glue, and SageMaker Visual ETL. This allows for interactive lineage graphing and programmatic management of data movement, enhancing visibility for data engineers and ML practitioners. The feature is now available in all SageMaker Unified Studio regions and complements existing support for IAM Identity Center-based domains.

Features (1)
  • Data lineage support for IAM-based SageMaker Studio domains

Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio now captures OpenLineage compatible data lineage events from Apache Spark jobs running on Amazon EMR, AWS Glue, SageMaker Visual ETL, and notebooks within IAM-based domains. This functionality was previously only available in IAM Identity Center-based domains.

Enhancements (1)
  • Interactive lineage graph and programmatic management

Users can visualize data movement through an interactive lineage graph with configurable depth and event timestamp modes for column-level lineage. Data lineage can also be programmatically published, queried, and managed via OpenLineage compatible applications, with a new API to delete published events.

Notes (1)
  • Availability and getting started

This data lineage feature is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio is offered. Further details can be found in the Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio documentation and API reference.
