Google offers free Gemini Pro/Plus for students, adds new study tools

Google is introducing new student plans for its Gemini AI, offering one year of Google AI Pro or Plus for free to eligible college students globally. Alongside these offers, Gemini is launching new study tools, including a dedicated student hub, interactive visualizations for complex topics, and integrated Deep Research in Gemini Live. These enhancements aim to provide students with a personalized AI-powered study companion to improve organization and learning efficiency. Existing study notebooks also receive updates, with graphs, images, and Google Calendar integration coming soon.

    Eligible college students can receive one year of Google AI Pro (US) or Google AI Plus (non-US) for free, unlocking higher usage limits, storage, and access to Gemini features. A bundle with YouTube Premium is also available at a discount.

  • Dedicated student hub introduced in the Gemini app

    A new hub within the Gemini app helps students organize study notebooks, create flashcards, take practice quizzes, and access all of Gemini's educational tools. It will also serve as the entry point for future learning features.

  • Gemini adds interactive 3D simulations and visual elements for learning

    Gemini can now generate functional 3D simulations, tables, and grids in responses to help students understand complex topics visually. Users can interactively explore concepts like DNA structure or energy transfer.

  • Deep Research capability integrated into Gemini Live

    Gemini Live now supports comprehensive, multi-step research reports, allowing users to launch a report and chat with Gemini about its findings. The research runs asynchronously in the background, notifying users when ready.

    Study notebooks, previously launched in June, will soon support graphs and images in lessons. Gemini will also be able to schedule key dates from syllabi, like exams and assignments, directly into Google Calendar.
