Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Harness GA
AWS has launched the managed agent harness in Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, enabling faster development of functional agents. This feature provides the orchestration layer, tool execution, state management, and error recovery, previously requiring significant manual development. It allows customers to define agents via configuration rather than coding the loop, offering flexibility in model selection and integration with tools and knowledge sources. The harness is available today in all commercial AWS Regions where AgentCore is offered.

AWS announces the general availability of the managed agent harness in Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, which allows teams to define and run agents using configuration rather than coding the orchestration loop. This feature provides capabilities such as tool execution, state management, and error recovery.
- Exportable orchestration code for custom needs
When custom orchestration is required, the harness can be exported to Strands-based code, with Claude Agent SDK export planned soon. This allows for evolving from configuration-based agents to custom code without rebuilding foundational elements.

The harness decouples agent logic from specific models, allowing customers to switch providers mid-session without losing context. Agents can also access organizational knowledge, web search, and AWS-curated skills through a unified platform.

AgentCore harness leverages the same platform gateway for security policy enforcement, and seamlessly integrates identity, memory, and observability features, ensuring agents are governed and traced from their initial calls.
