Amazon Bedrock AgentCore harness now GA

aiawsgaengineer
feature announcement

AWS Bedrock AgentCore harness is now generally available, allowing teams to deploy production-grade agents quickly by defining them in configuration rather than coding the orchestration loop. This managed capability handles tool execution, state persistence, and session isolation, improving agent performance and reducing development time. Customers can also switch models mid-session and export their configurations to code for custom orchestration needs.

Features (3)
  • Amazon Bedrock AgentCore harness GA enables rapid agent deployment

AWS announces the general availability of the managed agent harness in Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, allowing teams to go from idea to working agents in minutes. Customers define agents via configuration, specifying models, tools, skills, and instructions, which AgentCore then orchestrates.

  • Model-agnostic design allows switching providers

AgentCore decouples the harness from specific models, enabling customers to choose any model and switch providers mid-session without losing context or altering agent logic. This offers flexibility in leveraging different models for various tasks within an agent.

  • Exportable configuration supports custom orchestration

When custom orchestration is required, the agent harness configuration can be exported to Strands-based code, with Claude Agent SDK export planned. This allows for gradual customization without rebuilding the agent from scratch.

Enhancements (2)
  • AgentCore harness provides managed orchestration layer

The harness acts as the agent's 'body,' managing the orchestration loop, tool execution, context management, state persistence, failure recovery, and session isolation. This reduces the development burden for teams previously spending significant time building these components.

  • Integrated platform features enhance governance and observability

The harness integrates with the broader Bedrock platform for identity, memory, and observability, ensuring agent actions are governed and traced without additional configuration. It also provides access to a curated catalog of skills and web browsing capabilities.

Notes (1)
  • AgentCore harness available in AWS Commercial Regions

The AgentCore harness is generally available today in all AWS Commercial Regions where AgentCore is offered. Documentation is available for further details.
