Amazon EBS Volume Clones Now Support Cross-Account Copy with Re-encryption
Amazon EBS Volume Clones now allow copying volumes across different AWS accounts, including optional re-encryption with a target account's KMS key. This feature facilitates secure data transfer between environments like production and development, ensuring data isolation and supporting separate key management strategies. It benefits organizations needing to move sensitive data across account boundaries safely and efficiently. The capability is available for all EBS volume types and can be accessed via the AWS Management Console, CLI, and SDKs in all supported AWS regions.

Amazon EBS Volume Clones now support copying volumes across AWS accounts, enabling re-encryption with a target account's AWS KMS key. This feature facilitates secure data isolation for production and development workloads and supports distinct KMS key usage across environments. Users share volumes via AWS Resource Access Manager (AWS RAM), then copy them within the target account's Availability Zone.
