- Extended Support Extended for Existing Versions
Security and OS patch coverage for Elasticsearch 1.5-7.8 and OpenSearch 1.0-1.2 and 2.3-2.9 is extended by 12 months, now ending November 7, 2027. From November 7, 2026, the Extended Support surcharge for these versions will effectively double instance pricing, excluding storage costs. Elasticsearch 5.6's Extended Support remains unchanged, ending November 7, 2028.
- New End of Support Dates Announced for Additional Versions
End of Standard Support and Extended Support dates are announced for Elasticsearch 6.8, 7.9, 7.10, OpenSearch 1.3, and OpenSearch 2.11-2.19. Major version families (ES 6.8, ES 7.10, OS 1.3, OS 2.19) will receive 3 years of Extended Support, while other minor versions get 1 year of Extended Support at the standard rate.
- Upgrade Recommendations and Migration Assistance
Customers are strongly recommended to upgrade to the latest OpenSearch versions for maximum benefit, noting that minor version upgrades are non-disruptive. The Migration Assistant for Amazon OpenSearch Service is available for upgrading to newer versions.
- New Domain Creation Blocked Post-Extended Support
New Amazon OpenSearch Service domain creation will be blocked once Extended Support ends for each respective version, reinforcing the need for timely upgrades.
- Extended Support Charges Detailed
Domains under Extended Support incur an additional flat fee per Normalized Instance Hour (NIH). For versions already in Extended Support since Nov 7, 2026, the surcharge equals instance cost, doubling total instance pricing. Newer versions entering Extended Support will use the standard rate of $0.0065 per NIH.
