Amazon QuickSight Adds Multi-Dataset Topic Support
Amazon QuickSight now supports multi-dataset topics, allowing users to define relationships between multiple datasets within a single topic. This eliminates the need for pre-joining data, saving time and SPICE capacity, and enables consistent data modeling for both dashboards and natural-language analytics. The feature is now generally available and leverages existing security models.
- →Enable modeling relationships across multiple datasets in a single topic
- →Simplify cross-dataset analysis and reduce data preparation effort
- →Provide a single source of truth for users and AI agents
- →Maintain existing security and governance models
- →General Availability of Multi-Dataset Topics
Features (1) ›
- Enable modeling relationships across multiple datasets in a single topic
Users can now define relationships between multiple datasets within a single QuickSight topic, creating a reusable relational data model. This capability applies to both dashboard building and natural-language Q&A, with QuickSight performing joins at runtime.
Enhancements (3) ›
- Simplify cross-dataset analysis and reduce data preparation effort
This feature removes the previous requirement for manual pre-joining of data across datasets for dashboard visuals or natural language queries. Users can now define relationships once in a topic, which QuickSight will automatically join at runtime, saving time and SPICE capacity.
- Provide a single source of truth for users and AI agents
By querying the same topic for both dashboard visuals and natural-language analytics, this new capability ensures a single, governed semantic model serves as the source of truth. This consistency benefits both human users and AI-powered agents.
- Maintain existing security and governance models
Multi-dataset topics reuse existing dataset permissions and support row-level and column-level security (RLS/CLS). This ensures that established governance practices are maintained for all cross-dataset visuals and query answers.
Notes (1) ›
- General Availability of Multi-Dataset Topics
The multi-dataset topics feature for Amazon QuickSight is now generally available in all AWS Regions where QuickSight is offered. A blog post is available for getting started.
