Amazon RDS adds cross-region automated backup replication to four new regions
Amazon RDS has expanded its Cross-Region Automated Backup replication feature to four additional AWS Regions. This enhancement improves disaster recovery capabilities for mission-critical databases by enabling automated replication of snapshots and transaction logs to a secondary region. This allows for quicker restoration and resumption of operations in the event of a primary region outage, with a recovery point objective of just minutes. The feature is available for multiple database engines via the RDS Management Console, SDK, or CLI.

Amazon RDS now supports Cross-Region Automated Backup replication in Mexico (Central), Europe (Ireland), US West (N. California), Asia Pacific (Taipei), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Asia Pacific (New Zealand), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Melbourne), Asia Pacific (Thailand), and Asia Pacific (Jakarta) regions. This feature allows automated replication of RDS snapshots and transaction logs to a chosen destination AWS Region for enhanced disaster recovery.

Cross-Region Automated Backup replication enables restoration of databases to a point in time within the last few minutes, achieving a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of within minutes due to frequent transaction log uploads to the target region. - Easy setup via console, SDK, or CLI
Users can set up Cross-Region Automated Backup replication with minimal effort through the Amazon RDS Management Console, the AWS SDK, or the AWS CLI. This makes implementing robust disaster recovery strategies more accessible.
