Amazon Time Sync Service gains microsecond accuracy on 26 EC2 instance types
Amazon Time Sync Service now provides microsecond accurate time on 26 more EC2 instance types, leveraging the AWS Nitro System for improved application event ordering and transaction speed. This enhancement is accessible by creating a new Precision Time Placement Group (PTPG) for enabled instances. Customers needing both low latency and precision time can combine PTPG with Cluster Placement Groups. This feature is available today in all commercial AWS regions.

- Microsecond time accuracy for 26 additional EC2 instance types
Amazon Time Sync Service now supports microsecond accurate time on 26 new EC2 instance types, utilizing the AWS Nitro System and its reference clocks. This enables better application event ordering and faster distributed transactions.
- Precision Time Placement Groups (PTPG) introduced
Customers can enable microsecond accurate time by creating a Precision Time Placement Group (PTPG), a new placement strategy for instances with Precision Time Protocol hardware clock (PHC) enabled. PTPG can be associated with Cluster Placement Groups for workloads requiring both low network latency and precision time.
