App Engine flexible environment PHP to adopt Cloud SQL Auth Proxy v2
Google Cloud's App Engine flexible environment for PHP will integrate Cloud SQL Auth Proxy v2 as its default sidecar container for connecting to Cloud SQL. This enhancement, effective August 2026, aims to deliver modern security patches and support for MySQL 8.4 and later versions. Developers can opt into using the updated proxy immediately by restarting their virtual machines or deploying a new application version.

Starting from August 2026, to provide modern security patches and support for MySQL 8.4 and later, the App Engine flexible environment uses Cloud SQL Auth Proxy v2 as the built-in sidecar container for connections to Cloud SQL. To use the latest Cloud SQL Auth Proxy container immediately, restart your VMs or deploy a new version of your application.
