AWS Glue now supports catalog federation for remote Apache Iceberg in GovCloud (US) regions
AWS Glue now offers catalog federation for remote Iceberg REST catalogs specifically in AWS GovCloud (US) Regions. This capability provides direct and secure access to Iceberg tables stored in Amazon S3 and managed by remote catalogs, eliminating the need to move or copy data. It ensures real-time metadata synchronization for always up-to-date query results across various AWS analytics engines like Redshift, EMR, and Athena. The feature integrates with AWS Lake Formation for fine-grained access controls and is generally available in AWS GovCloud (US-East) and (US-West) regions.
