AWS HealthOmics adds ephemeral storage for private workflows
AWS HealthOmics now offers ephemeral storage for private workflows, providing dedicated local volumes for temporary data. This enhancement improves run performance and potentially lowers costs for I/O-intensive bioinformatics tasks like sequence alignment and variant calling. The feature is HIPAA-eligible and available across multiple AWS regions, with a default allocation of 16 GiB per task.

- Ephemeral storage for private workflows in AWS HealthOmics
AWS HealthOmics now supports ephemeral storage for private workflows, offering dedicated local volumes for scratch data. This change aims to improve run performance and reduce costs for bioinformatics workloads by isolating I/O operations.
Enhancements (1) ›
- Increased ephemeral storage capacity and runtime configuration
Each workflow task includes 16 GiB of ephemeral storage by default at no extra charge, which can be increased up to 3,072 GiB per task via workflow definitions (WDL, Nextflow, CWL) or the StartRun API.
Notes (1) ›
- Ephemeral storage details and availability
Ephemeral storage volumes are encrypted, deleted upon task termination, and available in all AWS Regions where HealthOmics is offered. Users can consult the AWS HealthOmics User Guide and pricing page for more information.
