AWS Transform adds TCO assessment for SQL Server migrations to RDS
Amazon RDS for SQL Server now integrates TCO assessment into AWS Transform, allowing users to estimate migration costs from on-premises SQL Server to RDS for SQL Server. The service uses AI to analyze existing environments, recommend optimal instances, and evaluate cost-saving options like Database Savings Plans and the AWS Migration Acceleration Program. Assessments support various data inputs and can be combined with analyses for other AWS services.
- →Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) assessment for SQL Server migrations to RDS
- →Support for Bring Your Own Media (BYOM) and License Included (LI) options
- →Cost optimization features and migration program eligibility
- →Flexible data input and what-if scenario creation
- →Integrated assessment with other AWS services
Features (1) ›
- Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) assessment for SQL Server migrations to RDS
Amazon RDS for SQL Server now offers TCO assessment capabilities within AWS Transform to estimate migration costs. The service utilizes AI-powered agents to analyze on-premises SQL Server environments and recommend optimal database instances. Users can evaluate different migration options and compare costs through AI-powered what-if analysis.
Enhancements (5) ›
- Support for Bring Your Own Media (BYOM) and License Included (LI) options
Assessments for RDS for SQL Server within AWS Transform now support both Bring Your Own Media (BYOM), allowing the use of existing SQL Server licenses, and License Included (LI) options.
- Cost optimization features and migration program eligibility
The assessments include cost optimization through Database Savings Plans, potentially offering up to 20% savings over On-Demand pricing. Eligibility for the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP), which provides credits and support, is also included.
- Flexible data input and what-if scenario creation
Users can initiate assessments using various data formats, including RVTools exports, CMDB data, and exports from AWS Transform or third-party discovery tools. Customized what-if scenarios can be created to compare multiple cost models based on assumptions for region, resource utilization, and pricing terms.
- Integrated assessment with other AWS services
RDS for SQL Server migration assessment capabilities are now integrated with existing AWS Transform assessments for services such as Amazon EC2, Amazon FSx, Amazon S3, SQL Server on EC2, and virtual desktops. This allows for combined cost modeling in what-if scenarios.
- Expanded Cloud Value Proposition analysis
Assessments can be enhanced by additional pillars of the Cloud Value Proposition, including staff productivity, operational resilience, business agility, and sustainability.
