CloudWatch Synthetics Adds Multilocation Canary Support

observabilityawsgaengineerfinance
feature

Amazon CloudWatch Synthetics now allows running canaries across multiple AWS Regions simultaneously from a single management point. This feature reduces operational overhead and configuration drift compared to managing separate canaries per region. It ensures consistent user experience, identifies region-specific issues, and enhances alert confidence by requiring multi-location failures. The feature is available in all AWS commercial Regions supporting CloudWatch Synthetics, and existing canaries can be upgraded.

  • Run canaries across multiple AWS Regions with single management
  • Improve alert confidence and reduce false positives
  • Simplify upgrade and configuration of existing canaries
Features (1)
  • Run canaries across multiple AWS Regions with single management

CloudWatch Synthetics now supports multilocation canaries, allowing a single canary to be replicated and managed across multiple AWS Regions simultaneously. This feature consolidates management and run data, simplifying monitoring across diverse geographic locations.

Enhancements (2)
  • Improve alert confidence and reduce false positives

New alarm configuration options allow alerts to trigger only when issues are detected from multiple locations. This increases alert confidence and helps teams focus on customer-impacting problems by reducing noise from single-region incidents.

  • Simplify upgrade and configuration of existing canaries

Existing single-region canaries can be upgraded to multilocation by adding replica Regions without needing to recreate them. This streamlines the adoption of multi-region monitoring capabilities.
