Databricks Enhances Dashboards with BI Imports, Genie Code, and Metric Views

Importing reports and data models from Power BI and Tableau with Genie Code is now generally available. Additionally, local metric views are now generally available, allowing users to define fields, measures, and join relationships directly in an AI/BI dashboard with a visual interface, without first publishing to Unity Catalog.

Genie Code for dashboard authoring now supports undo and redo edits, and can optionally materialize datasets. Users can manage dashboard email schedules and set a schedule's tabular attachment directly from Genie Code, ensuring scheduled emails include widget data. Genie Code also improves widget placement for better dashboard layout and organization.

Dashboard authors can now select multiple widgets and move them together on the canvas by holding Cmd or Ctrl while clicking. You can also now download up to 1 million rows from a dashboard widget to Excel, a significant increase from the previous limit of 100,000 rows.

When adding a Unity Catalog metric view to a dashboard, it now utilizes the same low-code UI as local metric views, replacing the legacy interface and allowing for local extensions. Dashboard subscription APIs now prevent duplicate recipients from being added, and unsubscribing removes all duplicate subscriptions for a recipient.

Charts that color by a categorical field now use the same color for the same value across every widget on a dashboard, improving visual consistency. Additionally, users can now hide the sparkline and date labels on counter widgets for a cleaner display.

A bug where visualization title text overlapped action icons in a Genie Code chat response has been fixed. Additionally, issues causing choropleth maps to crash when filtered results returned no data and waterfall charts not triggering cross-filtering have been resolved.
