feature announcement

Databricks has announced the general availability of Role-based access control (RBAC), a feature designed to enhance data security and access management. RBAC allows users to assume specific roles, ensuring they only have permissions associated with that role, rather than their accumulated permissions. This capability is crucial for preventing unauthorized access to sensitive data and avoiding data intermingling across various projects or client engagements. To deploy, account administrators must first enable RBAC at the account level, after which workspace administrators can activate it within individual workspaces.

Features (1)
  • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) Reaches General Availability

Databricks RBAC is now generally available, enabling users to assume specific roles with defined permissions. This functionality restricts user access to only the permissions granted by the assumed role, preventing access under their own identity and the mixing of data across diverse use cases or clients. Account administrators must enable the feature at the account level before workspace administrators can activate it in individual workspaces.
