GCP Compute Engine adds application-consistent database backups
Google Cloud Compute Engine now offers scheduled, application-consistent backups and point-in-time recovery (PITR) for self-managed databases on Linux instances. This feature supports various databases including IBM Db2, SAP HANA, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB. It uses a bring-your-own-script guest-flush framework to quiesce databases, ensuring transaction consistency and preventing data corruption. Dedicated Persistent Disk backups for archive logs further facilitate granular point-in-time recovery.
