GitHub Copilot's usage metrics API has been expanded to include activity data for agentic CLI customizations. This update provides insights into the usage of skills, custom agents, Model Context Protocol servers, slash commands, and plugins across enterprise and organization reports. Administrators can now identify popular automations, address enablement gaps, and make informed investment decisions for developer tools. The new fields are available in both per-user and aggregate daily and 28-day reports for owners and billing managers with the Copilot usage metrics policy enabled.

  • Expanded Copilot Usage Metrics for Agentic CLI Customizations

GitHub Copilot's usage metrics API now includes fields for agentic activity, covering skills, custom agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, slash commands, and plugins. These new metrics enable enterprise and organization administrators to track which CLI customizations are gaining traction, identify enablement gaps, and focus investment on valuable developer automations.

  • Specifics and Access for New Copilot Agentic Metrics

Customer-defined names are anonymized, while GitHub-provided item names are shown. MCP server interaction counts log connection attempts, and plugin metrics are a subset of skill totals, so they should not be added together. These reports are available to enterprise and organization owners, and billing managers, provided the Copilot usage metrics policy is enabled.
