GitHub Models to be fully retired July 30, 2026
GitHub is fully retiring its GitHub Models service on July 30, 2026, affecting all customers including those with active usage. GitHub Models, including its playground, model catalog, inference API, and BYOK features, will be fully retired on July 30, 2026. After this date, the service will no longer be available to any customer, with related UI elements being removed.

- Scheduled brownouts ahead of retirement
To facilitate preparation, brief service interruptions, referred to as brownouts, are scheduled for July 16 and July 23, 2026. During these periods, GitHub Models requests will temporarily return errors before service is restored.
- Migration options for AI model access
For AI model access, Azure AI Foundry is recommended for its broad model catalog, and GitHub Copilot offers access to various models for building AI-powered workflows directly on GitHub.
