SageMaker Studio Notebooks add EMR Serverless support
Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio Notebooks now integrate with Amazon EMR Serverless via Apache Spark Connect. This allows data engineers and analysts to choose EMR Serverless as their Spark runtime alongside Athena Spark for interactive analytics and data engineering. The feature supports PySpark and Spark SQL, offers unified Spark UI monitoring, pre-initialized capacity for faster starts, and VPC connectivity, and is available in all regions where SageMaker Unified Studio is offered.

Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio Notebooks now support Amazon EMR Serverless with Apache Spark Connect. This provides data engineers and analysts flexibility in choosing their Spark runtime for interactive analytics and data engineering. Users can now run PySpark and Spark SQL on EMR Serverless within Notebook cells.

EMR Serverless provides VPC connectivity support, enabling workloads that require network isolation. This feature is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio is available.

- Selectable Spark runtime and AI assistant integration
Users can select their preferred Spark runtime from the Notebook side panel, which applies to both Python and SQL cells. SageMaker Data Agent, the built-in AI assistant, can now generate code and execution plans from natural language prompts, accelerating Spark development workflows with EMR Serverless.
- Performance and monitoring improvements
Organizations can leverage pre-initialized capacity for improved session start times. Unified Spark UI monitoring is available across all supported engines, providing consistent visibility into job execution and performance.
