Selected GitHub Copilot AI Models Deprecated
GitHub has deprecated several AI models used in Copilot experiences, including specific versions of Gemini Pro, Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet, and Raptor Mini, effective September 1, 2026. Users are advised to update their workflows and integrations to utilize the suggested alternative models. Copilot Enterprise administrators may need to enable access to these new alternatives through their model policies in Copilot settings. Individual GitHub Copilot subscribers on annual plans will retain access to Claude Sonnet 4.6.

- Multiple AI Models Deprecated for GitHub Copilot
As of September 1, 2026, GitHub Copilot is deprecating Gemini 3.1 Pro, Claude Opus 4.5, Claude Opus 4.6, Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Sonnet 4.6, and Raptor Mini across most Copilot experiences. Users and enterprise administrators should transition to recommended alternatives like Gemini 3.7 Flash, Claude Opus 4.7/4.8/5, Claude Sonnet 5, and MAI-Code-1.1-Flash. No action is required to remove the deprecated models, but administrators must enable new models via Copilot settings.
