Snowflake Hybrid Tables See Major Performance and Cost Improvements
Snowflake has significantly boosted the performance of Hybrid Tables, offering up to 8x faster point lookups and 10x faster batch writes with 10x lower cost, based on internal benchmarks. These enhancements aim to consolidate transactional and analytical workloads, eliminating the need for separate OLTP databases and reducing complexity for AI applications and workflow state management. The improvements, which will be enabled by default for all Hybrid Tables workloads, also include the elimination of request credit billing, resulting in average cost reductions of 15%.
- →Hybrid Tables enable low-latency data serving for applications
- →Lightweight applications and AI agentic workflows can run directly on Snowflake
- →Hybrid Tables achieve up to 8x higher throughput for point operations
- →Batch operations in Hybrid Tables are now up to 10x faster and 10x cheaper
- →Request credit billing removed for Hybrid Tables, reducing costs
Features (2) ›
- Hybrid Tables enable low-latency data serving for applications
Snowflake Hybrid Tables can now serve as a high-performance tier for real-time data needs, such as product recommendations or geospatial lookups. This eliminates the need for separate serving layers and ensures data freshness.
- Lightweight applications and AI agentic workflows can run directly on Snowflake
Hybrid Tables support fast reads and writes for customer-facing applications and AI agentic workflows, offering the transactional guarantees of an OLTP database. This allows for native execution of processes like case management and entitlement enforcement on Snowflake.
Enhancements (3) ›
- Hybrid Tables achieve up to 8x higher throughput for point operations
Hybrid Tables now support single-statement query execution for repetitive operations, resulting in up to 8x higher throughput for point operations. This performance improvement will be enabled by default for all Hybrid Tables workloads once generally available, requiring no code changes or configuration.
- Batch operations in Hybrid Tables are now up to 10x faster and 10x cheaper
Bulk inserts into Hybrid Tables have been optimized at the storage engine level, achieving up to 10x faster batch writes at 10x lower cost. Optimized batch update, merge, and delete operations are slated for future release.
- Request credit billing removed for Hybrid Tables, reducing costs
Snowflake has eliminated request credit billing for Hybrid Tables, transitioning to a simplified compute-and-storage model. Customers report average cost reductions of 15%, with some seeing over 40% savings for high-throughput workloads.
Notes (1) ›
- Hybrid Tables consolidate transactional workloads to simplify architecture
Hybrid Tables integrate transactional workloads directly into Snowflake, enabling developers to manage state, metadata, and application logic without separate databases. This consolidation reduces complexity, improves data consistency, and unifies governance across transactional and analytical data.
