Snowflake Integrates with STACKIT for EU Data Sovereignty

Snowflake has integrated its AI Data Cloud with Schwarz Digits’s STACKIT, a European cloud provider, to offer customers enhanced data sovereignty options in Germany and the EU. This collaboration is designed to meet the strategic and regulatory needs of enterprises and public sector institutions requiring control and security over their core data assets within Europe.

The integration ensures encryption key ownership and control remain within STACKIT's EU-based infrastructure, enabling customers to detect, generate evidence for, and technically prevent unwanted access to their data. This system is designed to support European data sovereignty and regulatory requirements under European law.

Customer data will be stored in Apache Iceberg, an open-source format, guaranteeing data accessibility and operability even if the primary technology vendor is unavailable. This approach ensures data remains usable through other open-source tools without complex migrations, promoting digital independence.

Both Snowflake and STACKIT independently hold BSI C5 attestations, which is a critical qualification for regulated industries and critical workloads in Germany. This integration helps customers meet stringent regulatory requirements, building upon Snowflake's existing broad compliance certifications.

Snowflake and STACKIT are actively exploring opportunities for deeper strategic collaboration, including mapping out a path toward a more comprehensive Snowflake offering directly on the STACKIT platform. This indicates an ongoing commitment to expanding sovereign cloud options for customers.
