Snowflake's GA Per-User Quotas Enable Granular AI and Compute Spend Governance
Snowflake has made per-user quotas generally available, allowing enterprises to govern individual AI and compute spend. This feature eliminates the tension between fostering innovation and controlling costs, preventing runaway processes from draining budgets. It provides automated, proactive spend guardrails with block enforcement and granular daily or monthly limits. The quotas cover various services, including warehouse compute, Cortex AI Functions, Cortex Agents, and Snowflake CoCo, benefiting FinOps, platform teams, and developers.

- Generally Available Per-User Quotas for Spend Governance
Snowflake has made per-user quotas generally available, designed to eliminate the trade-off between enabling innovation and controlling costs for AI and compute services. This feature provides automated, individual-level spend guardrails, ensuring predictable and controlled costs for finance and platform teams.
Enhancements (2) ›
- Proactive Spend Protection with Granular Limits
The new quotas shift from reactive cost tracking to proactive protection, offering granular daily and monthly limits to isolate and restrict overages. This model facilitates universal self-service access across the organization, reducing administrative burden for FinOps teams.
- Automated Block Enforcement for Margin Protection
A key capability is automated block enforcement, which acts as a "circuit breaker" when usage reaches a limit. If a user hits their daily or monthly quota for a governed AI service, access is automatically paused for that specific service until the next cycle, without disrupting other services or users.
Notes (2) ›
- Comprehensive Coverage Across Snowflake Compute and AI Services
Per-user quotas offer granular coverage for both platform compute and AI services, allowing tailored limits based on risk profiles. Covered services include warehouse compute, Cortex AI Functions (like AI_COMPLETE), Cortex Agents and CoWork, and Snowflake CoCo developer assistant credit usage.
- Integration with Existing FinOps Cost Governance Stack
These new quotas integrate into Snowflake's broader cost governance framework, complementing existing Snowflake Budgets for macro-level tracking with micro-level enforcement. Administrators can manage quotas using SQL, the Snowsight UI, or conversational natural language via Snowflake CoCo.
