xAI's Grok 4.6 Reasoning Model Rolls Out to GitHub Copilot
GitHub Copilot is now integrating xAI's Grok 4.6, a reasoning model designed to enhance agentic coding and complex multi-step workflows. Internal testing showed strong performance in terminal-based coding tasks, particularly for longer-horizon tasks requiring sustained reasoning. This model is rolling out gradually to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise SKUs across various development environments. Administrators for Business and Enterprise plans must explicitly enable the Grok 4.6 policy in Copilot settings, as it is off by default.

Grok 4.6 will be available to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise SKUs. Users can select the model in the model picker within Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, GitHub Copilot cloud agent, GitHub Copilot app, JetBrains, Xcode, and Eclipse. The rollout will be gradual.
- Administrator Enablement and Usage-Based Billing for Grok 4.6
For Copilot Enterprise and Business plans, administrators must enable the Grok 4.6 policy in Copilot settings, as it is off by default. The model is billed at provider list pricing under usage-based billing.
