Amazon RDS for Oracle Now Supports July 2026 Release Update
Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports the July 2026 Release Update (RU) for Oracle Database versions 19c, 21c, and 26ai. This update is crucial as it incorporates security updates for Oracle database products and modifies naming conventions for 19c RUs. Monthly Critical Security Patch Updates (CSPUs) for 19c and 26ai will also be bundled as Monthly Recommended Patch (MRP) versions. Customers can apply the RU through the AWS Management Console, SDK, CLI, or automate upgrades using AWS Organizations upgrade rollout policies.

- Updated Naming Convention for 19c Release Updates and CSPU Bundling
Starting with July 2026 releases, the naming format for Oracle Database 19c RUs will change to <version>.ru-<YYYY-MM>.mrp-<YYYY-MM>.r<N>, while 21c RUs retain their existing format. Additionally, monthly Critical Security Patch Updates (CSPUs) for 19c and 26ai will be made available as bundled Monthly Recommended Patch (MRP) versions.
- Flexible Options for Applying Database Updates
Customers can apply the July 2026 RU using the Amazon RDS Management Console, AWS SDK, or CLI. Automatic Minor Version Upgrade can be enabled for updates during maintenance windows, and AWS Organizations upgrade rollout policies can be used for staggered, automated application across environments.
