AWS Glue now offers system-managed write protection for Apache Iceberg materialized views
AWS Glue now provides system-managed materialized views for Apache Iceberg, enhancing data lake governance and consistency. These views ensure that the precomputed results, stored as standard Iceberg tables in Amazon S3, can only be altered by AWS Glue. This prevents unauthorized modifications from other writers, providing a consistently governed dataset that can be shared confidently across Iceberg-compatible engines. The feature is available in all regions where Apache Iceberg materialized views are supported.

AWS Glue now offers system-managed materialized views for Apache Iceberg, ensuring that precomputed results stored in S3 remain consistent. Only AWS Glue can write to these Iceberg tables, preventing unauthorized modifications from other engines or direct S3 access. This provides a governed, immutable dataset for confident sharing and consumption across various Iceberg-compatible analytics engines.
