AWS HealthOmics supports resource fallback order for WDL workflows
AWS HealthOmics now includes a resource fallback directive, allowing users to define an ordered list of preferred accelerator types, including CPU instances, for tasks in Workflow Description Language (WDL) workflows. This enhancement helps researchers and bioinformaticians minimize time spent on diagnosing and resubmitting runs due to accelerator constraints. The system automatically moves through specified alternatives with configurable timeouts if the preferred accelerator is unavailable, improving workflow resilience. This feature is generally available across all AWS HealthOmics regions.

AWS HealthOmics introduces a resource fallback directive for WDL workflows, enabling users to specify a prioritized list of accelerator types. This includes an option to fall back to CPU instances, which helps reduce workflow interruptions and resubmissions by automatically trying alternatives when preferred accelerators are unavailable. Each fallback profile includes a configurable timeout to control the search duration.
