Azure App Service to Retire Linked Database Backups in Custom Backups
Azure App Service will stop supporting linked databases as part of custom backups after March 31, 2028. This change will be phased in, with support for MySQL and PostgreSQL ending in November 2025, and Azure SQL and SQL Server in April 2026. Customers are advised to use native database backup tools to prevent data loss and ensure continuity.

- Retirement of Linked Database Backups in Custom Backups
After March 31, 2028, Azure App Service custom backups will no longer include linked databases. This functionality will be progressively removed, with new configurations for MySQL and PostgreSQL disabled in November 2025, and for Azure SQL and SQL Server in April 2026. Existing custom backups containing linked databases will function until the feature's retirement date.
