Azure ExpressRoute and VPN Gateway Now Support Summarized Route Advertisement

networkingazuregaarchitect
feature

Azure ExpressRoute and VPN Gateway now generally support summarized advertised gateway prefixes, allowing aggregated prefixes to be advertised to on-premises networks. This capability helps large hub-and-spoke deployments avoid exceeding advertised-prefix limits, eliminating the need to re-architect address plans or split virtual networks. The feature supports both IPv4 and IPv6 address spaces and ensures existing connectivity is preserved for address spaces outside summarized prefixes.

Features (1)
  • Support for Summarized Advertised Gateway Prefixes

Azure ExpressRoute and VPN Gateway now allow specifying aggregated (summarized) prefixes for advertising to on-premises networks, replacing individual virtual network address spaces. This enhancement helps large hub-and-spoke deployments manage route counts effectively, preventing advertised-prefix limits from being reached as spokes are added.
