Azure Front Door WAF adds profile and route-level policy associations in public preview
Azure Front Door's Web Application Firewall (WAF) now supports associating policies at the profile and route levels, in public preview. This enhancement allows for more flexible and granular security configurations, enabling broad baseline protection alongside targeted policies for specific applications or sensitive paths. The update helps reduce policy duplication while ensuring appropriate security controls where needed. When multiple policies apply, route-level policies take precedence over domain-level, and domain-level over profile-level policies.

Azure Front Door WAF now supports associating policies at the profile, domain, or route scope. This enables users to apply broad baseline protection across a profile while using specific policies for individual applications, domains, or sensitive routes. The system prioritizes the most specific policy, with route-level policies overriding domain-level, which in turn override profile-level policies.
