Azure Storage Mover Now Supports Agentless SMB File Share Migration
Azure Storage Mover introduces agentless migration of on-premises SMB file shares to Azure Files (SMB), now available in public preview. This new capability removes the need to deploy and maintain on-premises migration agents, instead connecting directly over existing private connections like VPN or ExpressRoute. Source credentials are securely stored in Azure Key Vault, utilizing Storage Mover's managed identities for access to both source and target. Engineers can configure and initiate data copies via the Azure portal or CLI, offering greater flexibility for modernizing file storage.
