Cloud NAT to reduce default TCP TIME_WAIT timeout
Google Cloud is reducing the default TCP TIME_WAIT timeout for Cloud NAT gateways from 120 seconds to 30 seconds. This change aims to improve connection efficiency and resource utilization. The rollout will occur between June 30 and September 29, 2026, with all new gateways defaulting to 30 seconds after September 30, 2026. Existing gateways and those with custom timeouts will retain their current settings.

The default TCP TIME_WAIT timeout for new Cloud NAT gateways will decrease from 120 seconds to 30 seconds across all regions. This change will be implemented progressively from June 30 to September 29, 2026, with all new gateways using the 30-second default on or after September 30, 2026. Existing gateways and those with custom TIME_WAIT values will not be affected.
