Features (2)
  • Native OpenTelemetry metrics ingestion and PromQL querying

CloudWatch now accepts metrics via OTLP, allowing users to query custom OpenTelemetry metrics alongside AWS service metrics using PromQL. A Prometheus-compatible query API is provided, which integrates with tools like Grafana.

  • Enhanced Container Insights for EKS with OpenTelemetry

For Amazon EKS customers, Container Insights is updated to support OpenTelemetry, providing curated dashboards and metrics enriched with semantic conventions. This can be enabled via the EKS console or infrastructure-as-code tools.

Enhancements (1)
  • Dual-publishing option for existing Container Insights users

Users already employing CloudWatch Container Insights can simultaneously publish both classic and OpenTelemetry metrics. This allows for a phased migration of alarms and dashboards at their own pace.

Notes (1)
  • Pricing and availability details

Ingestion is priced per GB, with 15 months of storage included. The feature is available across most commercial AWS Regions, excluding specific Middle East and Israel regions.
