GitHub is gradually reopening sign-ups for Copilot Business and Enterprise for customers paying by credit card or PayPal over the next couple of weeks. This initiative also strengthens account vetting to improve the availability and reliability of Copilot services.
- Upfront Payment Required for Seat Assignments
All new Copilot Business and Enterprise seat assignments will now require upfront payment for each seat before users can access Copilot. This change ensures proper provisioning and payment alignment from the start of usage.
- Transition to Upfront Billing for Existing Customers
Existing Copilot Business and Enterprise customers paying via credit card or PayPal will incur an upfront charge for all assigned seats at the start of their next billing cycle. This billing update will take effect for existing customers starting October 1, 2026.
- Potential for Additional Usage Charges
If customers exceed their included usage, additional payment may be required for continued Copilot access for their users. Included usage may also be prorated across the month to align with the seat cost proration.
